About the Artwork
Mr. Slechta’s artwork is a dialog between photography and painting.
These colorful photo-paper works are a camera less interaction between light, painting and photosensitive paper. Within the vast areas of white negative space, it is illumination that selectively defines and reveals only what is needed from the paintings onto the surface. The result of that subtle play is a single photographic image, which is completely independent of resolution or duplication.
In his new series Mr. Slechta has departed from any previous remaining abstract naturalistic references. The further reduction of imagery eliminates any metaphor and gets at the physicality of illumination. This reveals the relationship and interaction between the lines of the painting and the gestures of light. The ambition of the work is not conceptual, but to invite a heightened sense of perception of presence.
